Dr. Alfredo Lopez, envisioned in the vast untamed and unadulterated rain forest, a Lodge that not only would be an attraction for those seeking something new and adventurous, but an eco-friendly getaway that could serve to help protect the beautiful natural surroundings and create jobs for the local people. The Lodge now rests on the banks of the San Juan River surrounded by 640,000 acres of Rain Forest at the Rio Maíz National Park, which makes it the largest rain forest north of the Amazon Jungle. The Rio Indio Lodge embraces a perfect balance between nature, comfort and adventure.

This lost paradise is home to the indigenous Rama Indians and the area is filled with history, virgin jungles and wildlife. The main lodge, gourmet restaurant, guest cottages, infinity swimming pool with lounging area, are all connected by elevated walkways set above the jungle floor.

The Rio Indio has had the distinct pleasure of hosting many well-known individuals who marvel at the beauty and accomplishments in this pure and prisitine enviroment. The main facility of The Río Indio Lodge was hand crafted by renowned Nicaraguan artisans. The beautiful main building with its 40-foot central ceiling and imported spanish tiled floors are the centerpieces of our lodge, nicknamed by the local indians as, “Chandeliers in the Jungle”. The interior features an indoor tropical garden and fresh water aquariums. Our wraparound covered porch provide sweeping panoramic views of the Lagoon, the river and tropical jungle floor gardens below.
